One Heartbeat

One minute,
one thought,
one cursed heartbeat at a time –
she whistles,
she walks
she’s a knock-off Gucci purse.

All the smiles and diamonds
can’t hide her rotten skin.
The lava,
(so delicious)
is burning her within.

She can’t be pink nails
manicured and trimmed.
She’s trailer trash,
buffalo wings,
she’s garlic bread with cheese.

She is she,
one heartbeat at a time,
and that’s all she wants to be.

(but that isn’t enough.)

(she’s Tiffany’s,
she’s gourmet,
because that’s what the world
thinks is right.

and with every single heartbeat
she’s fading out of sight.)
