On a Cold, Damp, Late January Day

On a damp,
cold,
late January day
I walked into the swirling
sleet & storm.

In that moment,
I disappeared.

Ice tore my soul away.
Snow buried me alive.
Wind stole my screams.

“It will be an adventure.”

That word used to work on me
like a charm,
a spell,
a hex…
…and then?

Devastation.

On a cold,
damp,
late January day
I looked at the warm,
distant
window…

…and into shadow
I was swept away.

.

(and did you notice?
did you care?
as you climbed nonchalantly
back up the stairs?)
