A Choice

Peel me raw.
I feel the sunlight like fire on my skin.
The exposure, heat – boils, burns.
I cannot talk but be mocked.
I cannot breathe but be choked.

I cannot see
the words on my screen.
My heart melts to tears;
through my eyes, I bleed.

In this moment, a choice.
To fly away free
or be buried in the sand?

A choice that is not a choice.

Clouds like smoke choke the sun,
and yet, we must rise.

We must scale the tower
to find the light.

We must paint the sky
pink, purple, transparent.

Success is life.
Failure is death.
Not of body –
death of soul.

Fly, we must.

Far above.
Fast.

Make your choice.
